The Big Beach Ball 2012 is the first edition of a new annual event taking place at Aberdeen Beach Ballroom and surrounding area, with a newly announced outdoor arena! Snuggled along the Promenade with sandy beaches as far as the eye can see, this one day festival will open its doors 1pm-midnight, Bank Holiday Sunday 6th May, closing with after parties across town until the early hours.

On a picturesque coast of Scotland, once crowned the UK’s sunniest city by the Met Office (yes really) and already this year bagging the title of hottest place in Europe in March; Aberdeen opens the summer season at one of our most iconic, historic and underused locations. With a total capacity of around 2,000 music fans, The Big Beach Ball utilizes the Ballroom, and it’s outdoor space like never before.

International artists, world renowned DJs, the cream of Scottish bands and party starters, vintage clothing markets, craft stalls, food and drink on site supplied by local restaurateurs and chefs, boutique cocktails and numerous bars across the arena are just the beginning…

Spread across the main Ballroom itself, the event also takes in the Northern Lights room and the Star Ballroom, as well as a new outdoor garden party quarter with a mix of bands and DJs alike. The outdoor arena is sure to bring a taste of summer with an outdoor garden party hosted at the comfy “Rekorderlig Strawberry And Lime Fields”, where where festival goers can soak in the atmosphere and relax, hile enjoying the premium Swedish cider’s mouth watering flavour range, sipping on British craft lager “Saint” or the Peruvian malt lager “Cusquena”. The hot new arena also lends itself to a minty fresh Mojito bar, selling the refreshing libation alongside the usual suspects. It doesn’t stop there, revelers can party in the sun and electric atmosphere in the outdoor DJ area, while grabbing a bite with food catered to by local restaurateurs alongside seasoned festival vendors. The outdoor area combined with all that the indoor aspect of the event provides is guaranteed to be a summer opener like no other in Aberdeen.

This is unquestionably the first of its kind for the North East, giving the region an event it has craved for years, helping to revitalize Aberdeen Sea Front with cutting edge production and worldwide attention.

It’s a new year and TUFF WAX is continuing its massive collectible coloured 7″ series, ‘Aberdeen Truth’ with 2 brand new tracks from gifted & prolific space-bass head GROBBIE.

Vibrant but criminally unrecognised, Aberdeen’s underground is beginning to seethe with creativity, as a new wave of electronic producers exhibit their uniquely local interpretations of club styles encompassing hip hop, techno, bassline, grime, dubstep, house & UK garage influences. The ‘Aberdeen Truth’ series documents the debut offerings from some of the better known desk-jockeys currently producing & DJing inside and out of the granite city.

GROBBIE sets it off with the dubbed-out hissy fit ‘Grounded’, mixing up crunchy rhythms with crackles, echoes & wave after wave of static space. ‘Parsed Thoughts’ takes things into more melodic territory, choosing to eschew the ambiance of the A-side in favour of a punchy, shuffling 4/4 beat, classic techno synths & glockenspiel samples.

‘Aberdeen Truth Vol. 3 – Grobbie’ is released on limited blue 7″ vinyl & free digital download on Monday, March 12th.

TUFF WAX kicks off our 2012 release schedule with the free debut digi-single from Aberdeen’s BONES & MONEY, ahead of their upcoming contribution to the runaway success ABERDEEN TRUTH 7″ series later this year.

‘Close’/'Anxious’ introduces BONES & MONEY’s unusual stripped-down & spacious production with two deep & chilled out joints. ‘Close’ sets things off with hammond jazz organs & 90s house-style vocals, tied together with crunchy acoustic percussion and deep sub-bass. ‘Anxious’ takes the soul vibe up a notch with purple R&B samples & a heavier 808 lean, building up to some frantic all-out drum programming before things cool off once again.
